I find it perfect that all of us here at ViewFinders – our contributors and our readers – are beginning our journey together as spring approaches. I can’t think of a better time for new endeavors and new beginnings than just before the daffodils sprout, the cherry blossoms emerge, and here in the southern United States from where I write/photograph, the kudzu and wisteria vines take over.

To say I am excited about our new journey together would be an understatement.

I am in a unique place with my own photography right now. I am just two short months away from finishing my MFA in studio art. Just around the time when the May blossoms are at their peak, I’ll be coming to the end of an intense three year journey of personal and artistic growth. It’s bittersweet for me.

I am not entirely sure what’s next, but I can tell you this: I am so looking forward to stretching myself even further as a photographer while applying all that I have learned during my time at UGA.

In the meantime, I’m getting ready to have some FUN really, really soon! I As you can see above, I treated myself to film to experiment with. Though I wouldn’t trade my time at UGA for anything, I am very excited about kicking back, and just shooting for the sake of shooting, with no projects or deadlines or critiques looming over me. I even bought a role of Lomochrome Purple! I mean business with this experimentation, buddy.

If you are unsure of what’s next in your own artistic journey, or if you have lost your inspiration over the winter – I encourage you to treat yourself to something new (new film, a new filter, anything!) because spring is on its way and it’s time for new growth.

I, along with everyone here at ViewFinders, would love to see what you are up to as spring approaches. Please share your images with us on Instagram by tagging your images with #viewfindersio

Not only that, we are giving you the opportunity to take over our Instagram feed for an entire week. Not just one day, not just two days – a whole week. How fun is that? See Debra’s post for the details!

Again, I am so looking forward to our journey together, friends.

~Anna~

  1. It’s exciting news that you’re almost finished with such a big endeavor. I can’t wait to see what you do next!

    • Thanks, Kirstin! I just can’t decide which film I should try first – I’m leaning towards that Fujichrome at the moment. Waiting until there’s a bit more foliage to try the IR and Lomochrome.

  2. I saw the Lomo Purple at the film counter yesterday and almost bought a roll! I think I will when I go back tomorrow. What fun!

  3. I giggle when you say, your excitement is an understatement because my excitement for this new beautiful blog is an understatement! It just completely captures all my loves, it inspires and I personally know some of the talent on this blog, I’m excited to meet new talent like you and I’m happy to visit. Now I need to see what Deb has to share about the IG thing.

  4. Congratulations on your graduation! And… can you please send your cherry blossoms north to Virginia?! I’m ready for some life in our landscape!!

  5. Congrats on being almost done with your MFA! A wonderful accomplishment. Bring on the purple film.
