sunday jaunt

You know those weeks…. the ones where you can’t see the forest for the trees and Friday can’t come soon enough.  Where the items on your to-do list become a never-ending and insurmountable mountain.  When the weekend finally arrives, my first impulse is to sink into the sofa with a book and a glazed stare and do NOTHING.

Nice as the sofa is, it doesn’t quite do the job of casting off the head-buzzing of a crazy week.  In my family, we like to hit the road in our 25 year old vanagon and go in search of space and landscapes to expand our vision.  I call them our Sunday moseys.  Often it’s my husband who rounds us up and gets us out of the house, my daughter and I often grumbling, but we never regret it.  If we’re tired, we grab some snacks and our cameras and hit the road without much of a plan in mind.

This past Sunday, chilly fog hung over our house and we were not inspired to get out anywhere.  Why bother?  But we grabbed warm jackets and off we went.  We were soon rewarded by the sun breaking through epic clouds on our way to Point Reyes.  Once there, we grabbed hot drinks and pastries from our favourite bakery and took ourselves on a walk with the dog.

Our shoulders dropped, our strides lengthened, we breathed in great gulps of air.  And if there’s a river to wade in, all the better.

Refreshed and gratitude reinstated, a fresh start on Monday doesn’t look so bad. Here’s to what refreshes you!

cheers,
kim

  1. It’s so funny how hard it is to get ourselves to take off for a Sunday break, but then when we do, we wonder what held us back in the first place! I bet by the end of the year, you’ll have quite a series going 🙂
