Island Hopping

FIP (4 of 6)-3You might think by the title of my post that I went somewhere warm and tropical. But, I didn’t. I actually didn’t even leave the state of Washington. This summer I was asked to second(assist) shoot a wedding on Orcas Island, Washington.  So, over the weekend, with my family in in the new RV fully loaded with best rv tire pressure monitoring system, GPS and a small Refrigerator, we headed north for one last camping trip of the summer season. One of the most novel things about being a PNWner is the ferry riding. Hopping from mainland to island (and in some cases, like with the San Juans, multiple islands) is exciting. Think about 90 or so cars and trucks (and in our case a truck with a pop-up camper in tow) all parked on a boat; floating along happily. It’s all pretty incredible. The ride between Anacortes and Orcas Island is about 45 minutes long. People do everything from sleep, to do puzzles, to play the ukuleles and sing on the deck. And that’s just the ride to the island. Once you are on the island, life slows down. The cell service is spotty and roads are narrow, forcing you to slow down and enjoy the ride. There are chickens in every yard and tucked away homes. There is a sweet little downtown and beaches with good shell hunting. We truly didn’t have enough time to explore, a weekend isn’t enough.FIP (2 of 6)-3I love exploring the green and blue State of Washington with my crew. Getting my polaroid land camera to cooperate was just a bonus! Next time, we are leaving Pop-up Penny on the mainland and renting one of these glamping spots! Maybe we will even leave the kids at home… I mean, look at this sweet little hideaway.

All photos were taken using my Polaroid landcamera 100 using fuji film.

Keep chasing that light, Vanessa
