Words and Images

Over the past few years, I’ve been working to merge the two mediums of photography and writing. While I love the visual, I also adore the written word. As a storyteller, I’m wanting to push my creativity to tell a story, a narrative, using both the texture of words and the contours of images. Here are a few recent pieces…

diamonds_rsthe heat overtook her as she opened the door to walk the dog, memory flashed with reminders that “it’s the humidity.” the thunder rolled in the distance, rain imminent. it would have to be a quick walk, despite the dog’s urging to go farther. the thick air added more weight to the heaviness she’d been carrying in her chest for months. as the clouds rambled above, storm thoughts did the same through her head. but then…then, a spark, a sparkle. the dew collected on the tender threads of a spider web shimmered like diamonds. and in that moment she knew the storm was passing. the spark would enable a flame to burn the heaviness she’d been carrying too long. and soon, she’d be the diamond.

manzanita-tree_rsShe said the manzanita trees reminded her of me,
With their red bark and smooth branches.
I said that’s interesting because Manzanita is one of my favorite places on this earth.
She said these trees are sturdy, strong.
She said they’re beautiful and rich.
She said they’re like me.
I drank in her words, trying to believe they were true.

let’s fly away
leave today
let’s float on clouds
ride the wind
let love be our whisper
our inner howl
yes…let’s catch a cloud
leave today

Have you blended two creative mediums? I’d love to hear about it!
