for memory keeping

A while ago, the good folks over at VSCO came up with a really fun little app that they call DSCO. It’s not sophisticated at all, but my goodness have I had fun with it. In fact it may be one of my favorite little memory-keeping tools – I tell you, I never knew I wanted to make gifs. You have to keep it in a vertical orientation, you can only save it to your phone by publishing to your VSCO grid, and if you want to share it on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and the like afterward, the programs all choose a crop for you, but you can apply a couple of limited VSCO filters to your gif!

I think part of the appeal for me is in the limitations. Do others make gorgeous artful things with their gifs? Absolutely. I know going in that that’s not what I’m aiming for. I want to capture these tiny little snippets of memory and movement simply and succinctly, and this just hits the nail on the head.

Questions? Are you a DSCO user? Love it? Hate it? I’d love to chat about it – weigh in in the comments!

All the best,
Alison
