of Darkness & Light

As far as I’m concerned not much good, except my husband, my niece, and a few top notch U.S. presidents ever came out of February. But even as least favorite months go, this year’s has been a doozy. It has been over-shadowed by lingering clouds, by letting go in small bits and pieces . . . and waiting, waiting for the inevitable holes in our lives that will follow the phone calls we know are coming. And which eventually came.

So this has been a month full of fuzzy blankets, comfy pillows, maple syrup candles, and of losing myself in book after book, and bringing home piles more from the library each week in which to lose myself all over again. It’s been a time of hunkering down, cuddling up and doing our best to shore ourselves up within the cozy confines of our four walls.

It has not been a time of many pictures.

As I look through my photos from a little earlier this winter trying to find some images from which I can build a post, I keep coming back to my pictures of the aftermath of our mammoth, late January snow storm. The brilliant light and blue skies that came close on the heels of days of darkness – first waiting for the storm and then as it sat directly over us dumping snow for over 24 hours – would not be denied.

And I realized that even earlier, in the midst of the darkness before the storm passed, we were able to create our own light.

There is a lesson in these images that is not lost on me. ~Debbie
