Once you catch the photography bug, you find yourself being drawn to certain themes, subjects, or scenes over and over again.  Sometimes you don’t even realize you’ve got a series in the making until you scroll through your images (in that way we do) and the thread becomes visible.

I definitely have a passion for old things — antiques, crumbling houses, peeling paint. One of the unconscious threads that I’ve discovered in my photographs is the use of the wood on my deck as a backdrop for what I think of as my deck still-lifes.

Combining natural elements with the old wood makes me practically giddy.

Here on Cape Cod, where many of the houses are clad in weathered shingles, it’s not hard to find a spot to showcase the latest garden harvest or beach treasure.  If you live in a place where weathered wood isn’t right outside your back door, there are LOTS of blog posts and Pinterest pages dedicated to distressing wood to use in your photo shoots.

  1. I would love to see the weathered houses near you one day. They must be so very special. And I love that you love old things.

  2. Your love for where you live is so apparent in the images you take – someday I intend to visit and see in person what your eye captures so beautifully.
