Cheating on my Camera

I admit it.  I cheated on my camera.  I have all the good excuses:  We were going on a long hike so I didn’t need the weight of my big, heavy camera.  I didn’t want anything to happen to the object that helped me pay the bills in case it rained or I slipped.  It was going to be in the middle of the day so the light wouldn’t be perfect for landscapes.   And yada yada….    So instead, my job was to carry the lunches.    After we got out of the car, I knew my excuses were transparent- I really just wanted a reason to get my hands on his camera.

About a year ago, my husband got a Fuji XT-10.  It’s so light and compact next to my Canon 5D Mark III.  I found myself taking side glances in it’s direction until finally I was just staring at it longingly.  I wondered what it would feel like to hold it and put it up to my face.  To turn the dials and scroll through the menus.  It has this vintage, film camera vibe going on, totally acting like it doesn’t know it’s cool.  My husband finally just said, “Here.”  and handed me the camera.  I felt young and awkward, fumbling through the motions of aperture and shutter speed.  Everything worked differently and it took me a little time to find my groove.  Like any new relationship, it will take time to develop but my initial crush has not faded.  In fact, I managed to convince my better half to let me hijack his camera for the rest of the month.  Be on the lookout for more pictures as I continue my affair!

  4. I have the Fuji X100S and I’m eyeing the X-T1…need to sell some gear to make that happen! I think I’m ready to ditch the DSLR for good.

  5. Gah! There was an xt10 in a clearance box at best buy the other day and I didn’t have the time to ask a clerk to tell me how much they wanted for it… I’ve been eyeballing the mirrorlesses for so long it seems!
