Winter’s bones

“I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape. Something waits beneath it; the whole story doesn’t show.” ~Andrew Wyeth

*********

Though I’m not a fan of winter, I can appreciate the truth of Wyeth’s sentiment. The stripping away of foliage and color from the landscape allows me to really see what’s underneath. And here’s something else I’ve noticed: when I’m faced with “less,” I dig deeper to find the beauty and the good. The little things become more important, small details are more readily seen. Tiny little pops of color bring joy.Winter forces me to peer more closely at what’s around me, to really search for those things that spark hope. Spring and summer are overflowing with so many gifts; it’s harder to find the good in winter, but it’s a worthwhile exercise for me.

What tiny gifts and blessings are you noticing this winter?

  1. What a wonderful way of seeing winter. I am such a summer person, I need all the help I can get through the winter period.

    • Ah, me too, Kirstin! Summer is my happy place.
