Coming Back

As many of you out there know, my life took an unexpected turn a little over two years ago. While I am in an incredibly happy place now, 2015 was a very difficult year for me. As I tended to my heart and soul, allowing myself space and time to grieve, I stepped away from photography with my “real” cameras. Yes, I kept snapping photos with my iPhone, but my film cameras have been gathering dust for months and months…and months.

Back in September, I was talking with my good friend, Lindsey (you know her–she wrote and shot with us when we were Mortal Muses), and she had just signed up for a film photography workshop scheduled for April. I remember telling her I could use a kick in the creative pants, and I signed up to go along with her. That workshop happened over the last few days. And friends, I’m here to tell you…IT WORKED.

In the midst of inspiring talks about the intentionality of our photography, choices of film stocks and how they are all different, relationships with your film lab, and much more, we shot. I shot. In fact, I came home with a bag full of film I shot on THREE cameras. I’m giddy. I’m excited about shooting. I find myself *seeing* again.

For the first time since 2015, I feel like a photographer again. Can’t wait to get all of my film developed. Here’s to shooting.

  1. This makes me so happy! I’m also so glad that while you may have stepped away for a while, you never completely closed the door, you know? Can’t wait to see your film! And welcome back ?

  2. That’s so good to hear! Also- I live in Big Bend National Park and I visited Marfa once- what a great place to take photos!

  3. Meghan! I’m so thrilled to read this. Sometimes the space is a very good thing, because when we do loop back around we are SO open and ready. Can’t wait to see more of what you took!
