Timeless

A few weeks ago my husband and I took a day trip to St. Joseph, Missouri (St. Joe) just an hour north of our home. It’s a place known for its connections to Jesse James, the Pony Express, and Walter Cronkite. The town offers plenty of museums and tourist attractions, but we went simply to wander about, stopping frequently as my eye caught things of interest.

Have you ever visited a place that immediately created in you a sense of nostalgia? St. Joe did that for me. So much of what we saw was reminiscent of a different era.

As we explored, I realized my portrayal of this place might be enhanced by the use of black and white. Though summertime for me usually means color-filled images, this summer day and place seemed to call for a more timeless look. The beauty of shooting with a digital camera is the option to make the switch as your vision for telling the story changes.

Having spent just a few hours here, I think a return trip may be in my future. And who knows, maybe I’ll even take a film camera along for the ride next time!
