Starting Over

Even if it’s the change you wanted, starting over is never easy.  We’re finally unpacked in our Colorado rental (for the most part) but feeling settled will take more time.  Silly things, like remembering which drawer I put the silverware in, or what day the trash comes still dominate my thoughts since they’re not routine yet.  There’s so much to learn in this new space and I have to start over with finding my way around the city, the neighborhood, even the grocery store!  The comfort of the familiar is gone, but what it reveals is the excitement of the unexplored.  I feel a lot like a beginner again.  I have to relearn how to care for the landscaping at our house since all the plants are foreign to me.

I have to relearn the sunrise/ sunset schedule because a large mountain range in the west changes my calculations.

I have to relearn how to build my client base because we just don’t know that many people here yet.

I feel like a beginner with my camera, too.  Not really sure where to go yet, I find myself walking through the neighborhood, (in mid-day sun, no less) focusing on the unfamiliar plants that catch my attention, wandering through the weeds and watching the shadows.

Also, learning about the new critters I can expect to find along the way.

It’s a start.  As I slowly expand my circle of experiences and places, I’m hoping that my photography will blossom again, as well.  But for now, I’m trying not to rush the process so I can enjoy the exploration and the noticing.

Starting over (again) – Angie
