I traveled to New York last month with my husband. Because he was there for business and I was more of a stowaway, I had some time alone to explore. While I love adventuring with my husband, it was also fun to adventure alone.

I was able to meet up with a few friends that I have made over the years through photography. One afternoon, I met up with Amy Drucker. Amy is an amazing photographer and I have admired her work for a long time. It was wonderful to hug her neck and sit and have lunch together. She took me over to the Highline to adventure with our cameras. I had my Polaroid and my Hasselblad.

After I got home and scanned my roll from my Hasselblad, I realized there were times I took the same photo with both cameras. It was interesting to go back and compare what I chose to capture with each camera.

With the Polaroid, I am quicker to shoot without really thinking too much, which results in more photos that are the big picture or view.

With the Hasselblad, I was more likely to capture the small details.

And sometimes I captured the same view with both my Hasselblad and Polaroid.

One view that I don’t see that often was this one that my friend, Amy, took.  I had my Hasselblad in my hands and the Polaroid at my hip.  I would love to say this is my tourist look, but I also sport this look when I adventure Los Angeles.

What cameras do love to take with you when you travel?

  1. I like to take my Ricoh GR camera.. Small, unobtrusive. I find limited choices (one camera, one focal length) to actually being a benefit.

    • That sounds perfect! Do you have a link to some of your photography from this camera? I know I would love to see some of your work from the Ricoh GR, and some of our readers might also.

  2. The same subject images of the Polaroid and Hassleblad look like they were taken 100 years apart. So cool!

    • Sorry for being tardy in providing a reply. I just recently got the camera so I don’t have a lot that I’ve published but I do have few on my IG account under “steveduffey”. Having that fixed 28mm lens forces you to pay more attention.
