seeing double

I mentioned in our last community post that I have been learning how to make and experimenting with double exposures. I have two film cameras that have multiple exposure levers that allows me to easily take double exposures. When I say easily, I mean that the camera makes it easy to do, I still need to do the math for the exposure and try to imagine two images and how they will blend together, and remember where highlights and shadows will be in both images.

While I have enjoyed learning more about creating double exposures, there is an easier way to create these images- and it is available to anyone with a smartphone. Blend is a free app you can download to your smartphone. The app allows you to blend, erase, and fine-tune your double exposures. I had some fun with some images of my family members.

The app also allows you to add light filters or blend in-app presets with your images.

And if you have an image you would like to use in your double exposure, but you need some inspiration for that second image, they have images that you can use with your image.

Do you have a new photo app you are enjoying? I’d love to hear about what you have been playing with lately.

  1. These are wonderful, Staci! Thanks for the app recommendation, I have long been wanting to try my hand at double exposure.
