A much needed vacation

We all do distance learning this year. I distance teach Kindergarten too from my bedroom. My husband works from home now as well, more specifically, in our garage. We are in the house 24/7. A few weeks ago, our stress and anxiety were rocket high and our rollercoaster emotions were showing the worst of us. Needless to say, and as fortunate as I feel about having a beautiful home to feel sheltered and safe, we desperately needed to get out of here.

Traveling helps relax, and recharge. It helps us take our minds off situations were are uncomfortable with. When we de stress, we have lower cortisol (which is our main stress hormone) levels, so we feel more calm, happier, balanced again. It is science, but also we have proved it ourselves time and time again. If you love traveling, you know it too.

We didn’t go very far or for very long, just a few hours south of the Bay Area, to Morro Bay for a couple of days. It’s a small seaside town with not much going on, especially in October, but it still felt wonderful to be away from our routine. Sometimes traveling isn’t necessarily about the new places you visit but about escaping the old ones.

Also, the ocean. It is healing, no doubt about that. The blue, the calm, the sand between your toes… And all that vitamin!

We returned restored; our minds at peace and our souls content. It was exactly what we needed.

We are planning another trip for Thanksgiving. I can ascertain we will be ready to take another break from working and learning from home. Until then, here are a few of our little memories from that trip to Morro Bay.

  1. These are strange times indeed and everyone is on edge! What a perfect mini-break for you & your family! Your photos made me feel peaceful and less stressed just looking at them. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Maite, I love this prescription – take a few days away, rest and get away from it all! I had to ask my husband to read this post, too. I knew he’d love the pictures of the sea otters. And we re-affirmed our plans to keep planning small escapes to maintain our good spirits. And, the picture of the young person carrying the surf board – blurry is so beautiful!!

  3. Getting away, even if it’s just for the day, is like a breath of fresh air. Honestly, I just can’t imagine teaching kindergarten online. Beautiful pics!
