The Accidental Project

Yesterday was Groundhog Day here in the U.S., and it seems like I’m stuck in a bit of a loop. Despite the fact that we’re halfway to Spring, I might as well be at the end of summer. Okay, the foot of snow that is currently outside my window aside, I appear to be capturing the same scene again and again. You see, I’ve detected a pattern in my shooting over the past six months where I can’t resist morning light. On my kitchen table. Despite the chaos!

Actually September was inspiring. All that beautiful color! How could I resist?

But things took a turn in October. It seemed innocent enough. I regularly collect acorns to fill in jars to hold candles.

But October turned into November, and I collected a few too many. I also ripened my tomatoes after picking the lot before our first hard frost. We used the dried strawflowers to decorate at Thanksgiving.

By December, along with the acorns, I began acquiring pumpkins. You might recall I wrote about my love of cooking pumpkins last year! Somewhere in the mix I harvested my oregano too!

Which brings us to January. Acorns, oregano, and a glorious set of 1920s pressed goblets I acquired from my local Buy Nothing group! Luckily I made headway with the pumpkins, cooking up several batches of soup.

Which brings us up thru last week. I am happy to report that in the spirit of Imbolc – the halfway point between Winter and Spring – I fed the acorns to the squirrels, crumbled up oregano in my meals and have resolved the clear the rest this week.

I’m a bit embarrassed by the mess, but had my table been empty I probably wouldn’t have captured it. And now I have a lovely new series to enjoy and collate over the months ahead. But I swear the acorns are gone. Well mostly. One jar is left from the candles, but that’s going outside this week.

Have you found any accidental photo projects you’ve been capturing over the past unexpected year? Share with us in comments. I’d love to hear and see what you’ve been capturing too!

Until Next time,
