finding joy

My friends, today I went to an art gallery for the first time in a year and a half. Other than not being able to see my family on the other side of the continent, and hugging friends, I have missed going to museums and galleries the most. Wandering around huge, airy rooms with other like-minded folks there to absorb culture and art was a gift I didn’t know I would miss as much as I have.

Were there particular exhibits worth shouting about? Not really. Large sections of the museum were closed off and we couldn’t access some of our favorite outdoor areas with the same ease as pre-covid. There were line-ups and QR codes to sign up for experiences that we mostly couldn’t be bothered with. But did my daughter and I have a fabulous time anyway? Yes, we did.

Shapes. Colours. Light. Passing people (still in masks) wandering with the same delight we were feeling.

Eating at our favourite café in the museum and feeling giddy with freedom and delight. We took photos of our food and each other with our iphones (camera? what camera?) and I didn’t care if the photos were even any good.

We visited our favourite red-themed restroom and took photos there too. Because why not.

We stood in line for our 45 seconds of time on a somewhat ridiculous coloured bridge, simply because it was there and it was fun.

Sitting here at my computer, reviewing photos from the day, I have a smile tugging at the corners of my mouth and a lightness in my heart that I didn’t even know was missing.

I hope that wherever you are, you are finding experiences about which to get good and giddy. Because it’s been a long time coming.

cheers friends!
