Squinting through
a thumb print
melted in iridescent frost,
I viewed a magic world
glittering
near-blinding white
in the morning sun
slashed
with crimson wings

Hoping a tentative touch
will take me though
like Alice.

Thought the Glass by Cecilia Slusser 1982

Poetry from my mother etched on my heart.
