While any day is a good day for a visit to the beach, I especially enjoy visiting after a good winter storm.

The pounding waves and low tides are a beachcombers glee.  The smooth, worn, rocks and sea glass are left exposed until the next high tide.  Driftwood collects on the shore and sparks the imagination of those with a vision.

Though the waves crash on the shore, there is always a quiet, contemplative, feeling that surrounds me.  Maybe it’s the solitude that you can find in the winter, when the summer season has long packed up and gone. Maybe it’s the magnitude of the power and breadth of the ocean and the strength and pull of the tides.  Wherever the feeling comes from, it’s always a welcome change from the busy, noisy, day to day formalities.

As it is still January, I am hoping for a few more stormy days here on the California coast. Whether the storms transpire or not, I will continue to enjoy the natural beauty of our local beaches, and any of the man made visions I should stumble upon!
