Peak Blossom

It is peak blossom in these parts.

I’m not big on flowers, but photography has taught me to pay more attention to the seasons, the light, the passing of time. And for some reason blossom has caught my imagination more than other flowers. Maybe that’s because it’s part of Nature’s way of signalling Spring. It’s one of the very first flowers I photographed.

Since then, I’ve shot blossom on digital…

…blurred it on purpose…

…shot it on film…

…shot it through the window, with and without our cat…

…I’ve travelled to West London, to see it against the pretty pastel houses…

…I’ve photographed just the petals next to my bike’s shadow…

…I’ve featured the blossom with our girl…

…and with our boy — gosh, he used to be so small!

It’s become crazier in our local blossom zone in Greenwich Park since the advent of Instagram (we are Number One on the latest Time Out List). During lockdown, the blossom avenue was even closed off.

But my favourite time is in the evening when everyone has gone, further into the season when the petals have lost their deep pink, are fluffier and are almost falling off the branches.
