I think you all know that I’m so happy to live in Houston most of the time. But when August comes around? Wow. The heat is brutal. A few weeks ago we had temperatures over 100 degrees for more than 10 straight days. Coupled with the humidity of living near the Gulf, it gets a little overwhelming. We’ve started making a habit of escaping the sweltering summer heat and heading north to cooler climates before school starts up again. The last few years we’ve been going to Northern Michigan and I do have to admit that we’ve fallen in love. In the area where we stay, there’s a little bit of everything for the outdoor lover and photographer.
Small calm lakes and vast Great Lakes.
Orchards where you can pick your own fruit and vineyards with tasting rooms.
Wide open dark skies filled with stars and, of course, a fire every night.
Just what this Houston gal needs to refill my soul after the heat of summer has drained the energy out.
Stay cool, my friends – Angie

So pretty, Angie! Do you go to the same spot each year? Do you camp or stay elsewhere?
We go to the same place every year. We haven’t camped yet, but I can imagine a day that we will. It would be so fun to camp at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park! (which is about an hour from where we stay….) 🙂
I know some of these places. I have family in Michigan and a few years ago we took our family summer beach vacation lakeside. You captured the overwhelming openness of the landscape beautifully, Angie.
Thanks Debbie – I think we’ll be going back more and more often. I have dreams of hosting a workshop there someday!
Love that lake shot! I have never been to Michigan but hear it is lovely. We are having some Texas weather this week! I am not a fan of the 104 temps with sticky humidity.
This looks so ideal! And I agree, those are some crazy temps that need to be escaped from! Lovely images. Now i want to have a bonfire!
Oh yes! Just lovely!
So, so lovely. There is just nothing like lake country. It’s where I would live (cottage on a lake) if I could pick my perfect place.
