The first mobile photo you took, that is. C’mon, we’re not that kind of website.
Anyway, I was looking back at an interview I did in 2013 where I was asked to share my first mobile photo. It was taken with my iPhone 4S in 2010. I had recently downloaded the Hipstamatic app and I was out walking my dog and decided to give it a try. I had no idea what I was doing. This was before the “precision viewfinder” was available in the Hipsta app so it was sort of like shooting in the dark–the app was supposed to simulate a vintage camera viewfinder for more unplanned and unexpected framing. And so here you have it…
It’s a terrible photo, but at the time, I was like…Whoa! I loved the frame and the vintage coloring, and I didn’t care at all about the imperfect compostition. The following week I was at the beach and I continued to experiment…
Again, ummm, not very good photos but I thought, hmmm, interesting, there’s something special here. I was hooked. And even though the images are a bit distressing to look back on, I have to credit Hipstamatic for getting me started with my love of mobile photography.
Flash forward to a recent trip to the same beach town this past August, almost 5 years to the day, I was once again drawn to pull out my phone and shoot with Hipstamatic. I saw these three men paddling out into the bay into these amazing clouds. They looked like they were going to be swallowed up…
I love to shoot the same image with some of my favorite lens/film combinations and compare the results…
Anyway, I digress. Hipstamatic does that to me.
So, do you remember your first mobile capture? Share a link to it in the comments today!

I still have mine on my phone. A walk in a favorite park, some purple thistle, a pond in the background, and a wonky angle, with a fun texture added in, not my best shot, but not my worst either. I love your idea of using different Hipstamatic combinations and taking shots of the same scene. I will have to give that a try.
That’s so cool that you still have it on your phone. A reminder of your progress I am sure!
Oh man! I went back and looked and mine was with the Hipstamatic too!
Ha, gotta love the Hipsta!
Mine was a photo of my cat, as if I was some crazy cat lady. I’m not, I swear!
