I’ve been tasked, for another photography group in which I’m involved, the Film Shooters Collective, to share my #1 and only one, singular, most favorite image of the year. It’s sort of, kind of, like asking me to pick my favorite child.
It’s natural, I think, for all of us who make a lot of pictures be they for pleasure, for profit, or for some combination of both, to take stock at the end of the year of the images we’ve made, and I have actually spent the past two days looking at every single frame of 2015. I can definitely whittle it down to a really short list, but it seems like beyond a certain point, any further cutting is just arbitrary.
Some are favorites because I was able to rise to the challenge of the image I perceived possible but wasn’t certain I was capable of producing, others because something happened – a bit of photographic magic – beyond what I imagined when I pressed the shutter, and then there’s that third category of moments that were so emotionally charged for me I find myself incapable of real objectivity. Which images fall into which categories? Well, I’ll let you be the judge, because without further ado, and absolutely no rhyme nor reason in the ordering, here’s a baker’s dozen of my greatest hits of 2015*.
