Do you ever feel like your photographs simply “don’t do it justice?” When you travel and are immersed in stunning scenery, do you feel like no matter how hard you try, your images just can’t capture the magic of what you are seeing with your own two eyes? Or that the life experience you are having can’t be translated to a photograph?
Having just returned from a magical trip to Bali, I’m feeling all of these things as a photographer.
Yes, I do think these are some great shots of my time in Indonesia, but they can’t compare to what I saw or felt in the moment.
So, do you think it’s possible? Can we truly photographically capture the sheer beauty and joy we experience? I’m not sure, but I’m going to keep trying…

beautiful shots, Meghan and so good to know you had a wonderful time in Bali.
as for recapturing sheer beauty and joy…I’m not sure…but I think we can get close…and, like you, I intend to keep trying!
Whoa! That bath looks incredible! So glad you had a wonderful time. Looking forward to seeing more of your images.
Oh I have experienced both! Moments where I find out later that I captured that feeling perfectly, and then many more where I know the actual moment itself can’t compare, but I feel good for trying. And tell me, how does one get into that bath?!!! Can’t wait to hear and see more!
More, I want to see more!!
Well, our image can only enter us through one sense, and your experience was immersive. I’m imagining the scents from that tub would have penetrated even my stubborn nose. But, and it’s an important, but, if we get enough of the image to effectively activate an immersive memory, well, then we do get to relive the whole experience. And the trying is a joy in an of itself, right?
