There’s a place he goes to make magic. In the evenings after work, early in the morning before breakfast, on the weekends — every free moment, he’s restoring, repairing, designing, and creating something beautiful.
The tools he uses are as complicated and beautiful as the furniture he builds. Each is perfectly designed, and then arranged in a composition that is as pleasing to the eye as it is practical. The tools of his trade call out to be photographed every time I step in his shop.
Antique tools…
Modern tools…
From the most beautifully crafted chisel…
…to the simplest screw: he uses them all with deftness and artistry.
I get to use the tools of my trade — camera, lenses, photo editing software — to celebrate the tools of his.
You can see more of my images of his shop here. Or visit his website to learn more.
See you in May!

This made me smile. Big. Thank you both. x
I really enjoyed this Lucy, thank you!
What a great series!
Oh, Lucy, this really gets me. My dad was a maker in his spare time, and I was always at his heels. I think the smell of sawdust and lumberyard is as evocative to me as old books. Thank you so much for sharing!
These images are so lovely! And I love the story they tell.
