How many times are you talking with a friend these days, and when you ask one another how you are, the words “I’m so busy” are uttered? BUSY. All of us are busy. Over-scheduled. Too much on our plates.
While we all have many responsibilities, it is so important to take care of ourselves. At some point, we have to be our own priorities lest we burn out, get depleted, and have nothing to offer. I’ve become pretty good at taking care of myself. After my health scare in 2008, I realized that self-care needed to be paramount in my life. If I’m taking good care of me, then I can be of service and help to others. You know when you’re on an airplane before taking off and the flight attendant tells you that in the event of an emergency, to put your oxygen mask on first before helping others? Self-care is just like that.
Recently, I traveled to Oregon to meet up with two groups of my soul sisters. Oregon is my happiest of happy places, and I was definitely diligent in my self-care.
From cocktails and delicious food…
To trips to my favorite book store…To lattes and donuts at the ACE…To photo walks with kindred spirits…To daises at the beach…And taking in the awesomeness that is the ocean…My cup is filled and my oxygen mask is certainly in place. How about you? How are you taking care of you these days?
