A New Year

It’s that time of year when I feel a bit in limbo…still reflecting on the past year while opening to what lies ahead. I’ve been looking through the past year’s photos and have been thinking about the ones I might make in this new year.

I haven’t set specific projects for myself yet. I might end up shooting every day; I might not. All I know is that I hope to shoot a lot. With my Fuji XT1 (which I love) and my Polaroid SX-70 (which I also love) and possibly with a Mamiya 645 (I’m checking out a friend’s stash later this week).

I have never started a poem yet whose end I knew.  Writing a poem is discovering.
~Robert Frost~

I think starting a new year is kind of like that too.

I want to play with digital; I want to play with film. I want to play. At the end of the proverbial (and real) day, I want to make pictures. Of the bits.

Bits that include my kids and husband. Bits that include the mess on the coffee table. Bits that include the light falling everywhere that it falls. Bits that include me.

It seems that the simple act of seeing the world through a camera lens
naturally brings one’s mind closer to the unfolding process of existence.

I want to make pictures of life.

You just have to live and life will give you pictures.
~Henri Cartier~

As we begin this new year, I wish you happy photo making. I wish you happy bits of life. I wish you a year that is everything you need it to be.

  1. “Pictures of life.” Yes! And all the bits that make it wonderful. I love this idea.

can’t wait to see how you and your cameras play this year… xo

  2. Absolutely lovely! We wrote similar posts this week, I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds this week post holiday as being in a sort of limbo! I can hardly wait to see what images you will share this year, Michelle. xx
