” Let us be those creative dissenters who will call our beloved nation to a higher destiny. To a new plateau of compassion, to a more noble expression of humanness. ” Martin Luther King Jr.
I took this image in February on a school trip with my daughter. It was a trip to visit the Martin Luther King Jr memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial, and the National Museum of African American History and Culture. It was a powerful trip, one I won’t forget any time soon. Today is 4th of July and to me I can’t think of any image that represents the beauty of our nation more. I believe so hard in our young, strong children right now. My heart swells when I think of their collective voice and what they will accomplish as they become adults. To stand in the Lincoln Memorial is to feel the power of this space. To stand where Martin Luther King spoke is to be humbled. This country is built upon the back of oppression. It’s not a secret. It’s being called out. It’s been revealed. . We know the horror. As a nation we are moving forward, and righting the wrong. The narrative is shifting. These kids, our kids, your kids are leading the way. May we follow their lead and in doing so, continue to push forward, onward and upward to that more noble expression of humanness. I believe. Feeling this today. Happy 4th.

That photograph is so good! Hope can be hard to nurture, especially during dark times. Thanks for the spark.
