Originally I set out to work on a totally different project this week. I’m in the middle of a black and white project and I went out with intention.
But then something happened.
More specifically something landed in my hair.
A cicada.
If you live on the East Coast of the United States you’ve probably had them in your hair too. You’ve also probably had them splatter all over your windshield, smack loudly into your house windows, and keep you awake at night with their mating calls.
They’re Brood X. They’re harmless, they’re huge, and if you don’t like bugs they probably make you very uncomfortable and I’m super sorry about that.
These guys have been underground for 17 years. They graduated Cicada High School and came out screaming. Ah, how relatable.
They’re here only for a brief time and people have been making the most of it. I’ve seen them in the news. I’ve seen cicada inspired artwork. I’ve even seen people putting them in tacos or covering them in chocolate. Of course, if you’re allergic to shellfish it’s recommended that you don’t eat them. So, yeah, sorry I’d love to, but I’m allergic to shellfish.
So there you have it, my ode to Brood X.
Much love,

It sounds like an incredible time, especially with the pandemic ongoing as well.
