When I first became obsessed with photography, it was all about finding a willful subject in an appealing setting. In San Diego there was an abundance of this in the form of neighborhood cats.
I shot every darn cat within a 4 mile radius, doing cat things: sleeping under cars, chasing rodents, staring at my dog with contempt. I have so many thousands of these images that cataloging them would be an enormous undertaking.
Sometimes when I’m at a loss for what direction I want my photography to take, I revisit the very start of what has been a decades long love affair. When all else fails, there are always cats.
I’ll be pursuing new things and taking a hiatus from writing about pictures, at least for a while. In the meantime, I leave you with a small collection of some of my favorite subjects.

Having just been in Istanbul taking pictures of cats I want to say that these photos of yours have a very special authentic quality about them!😻
What a gorgeous photos! So soothing to look at. Cats have such down to earth lives. I agree that there always will be cats. Can’t think of a life without them. Masters of zen. xo
These are fabulous. I will miss your posts. xox
