So many shifting dynamics in social media lately! Between the closing of Tik tok in the US two days ago and the boycotting of Meta, due to some “right-wing” changes announced by Mark Zuckerberg, it seems like we are at a turning point in social media.
Many users and, among them, many of my friends have begun to leave Facebook and are moving to different or new social media platforms or abandoning it altogether. However, it is a difficult decision for me as Facebook has been my “diary” for the past 18 years.
When I first opened an account on Facebook, I saw it as something so innovative! It felt so cool to be able to connect with other people you knew or reconnect with other people you used to know. It was a wonderful way to catch up and update others on what you had been doing for the last decade. I, like many, many others, posted photos of my growing family, our trips together, daily life activities worth mentioning, my love for and (almost) daily practice of photography…
However, 20 years later, many of my friends whom I had reconnected with (or even my newer friends) do not post much anymore. Yet, I still am and the reason for this is I have been creating Facebook memory books with all the posts from my Facebook year. It is through a company that advertises through Facebook and, at the end of the year, will create beautifully bound books with all your posts and photos.
I hate to admit that, despite detesting all the changes Zuckerberg is proposing and his relationship with our future POTUS, it pains me to leave Facebook. Leaving Facebook would mean not being able to continue printing my beloved memory books. And the probability of me sitting down at my computer to print all of my yearly photos and memories are zero to none. So, for now, I am stuck here at Facebook and posting almost every day, until someone can tell me I can do this exact same thing at a different platform…
Have you abandoned Facebook? Are you somewhere else where I can find you? Let me know in the comments!

I totally get this!
I still pop into facebook (and make sure to check your images!).
I post my photography on glass these days. There’s no distraction with ads or cat videos (like instagram) and sometimes I just want pure photography inspo.
