It’ll come as no surprise to anyone who knows me and my photography that for me, photography is an attempt at slowing down time, at trying to capture moments and feelings that will never exist again. Behind what looks like very ordinary moments of daily life, scenes from my neighbourhood, from camping trips or trips to France are moments and emotions I have wanted to remember and freeze.
A few months ago, I was reminded that my attempts at slowing down time are somewhat futile, with the announcement that the oldest of my three boys is getting married next year. Now, of course I had noticed he wasn’t a child anymore and of course I have very much enjoyed seeing the young adult he has become, but there it was: time flies, whatever you do.
So here is, through photos of my firstborn, my conclusion that all attempts at slowing down time will ultimately fail, but also that it is so important to attempt to anyway and to take pictures of your loved ones, your neighbourhood, your morning coffee/tea, that sunrise that will never exist again. Shoot away.

This is beautiful. Such a lovely reminder.
Thank you Staci 🥰
What a sweet collection from over the years. Congratulations on the news of your eldest and getting married.
And that canoeing photo – where was that taken? What a lovely scene, too.
Thanks Carolyn!
The canoe photo was taken on Grand Lake, at Achray which is part of Algonquin Provincial Park, in Ontario.
It’s a fairly small, no showers, miles from the road campground. It’s very peaceful.
Tugged at my heartstrings … reading this … congratulations, Valerie to you and family! 🥰
Thank you Madhu 😊
I have to admit this made me cry. Just a little! Huge congratulations to your son, but oh the heartstrings!
Oh my! This is beautiful. Congrats to your boy. And thank you for that reminder to capture the moments.
