Soup at the Beach

I took my Pentax k1000 to the beach for a wander near the ocean while we were in Florida this past Spring. Loaded with Kodak 200 35mm film, I set out to capture the swaying palm trees and crashing waves. I knew when I was packing this film that I wanted to soup it. I love the process of following my curiosity and seeing what calls to me. The day began with palm trees.

Seeking light flare!

The light shifted throughout the day.

Sunset at the beach was filled with wonder and beauty.

And as the sun began to sink into the deep blue sea…

I finished the roll. Back at the condo, I souped the rolls of film in the following recipe: hot water, lemon juice, lime juice, dish soap, and Kool Aid (red & yellow). I allowed it to steep for five hours and then rinsed in cold water for five minutes. As always, be a good friend and ONLY send your souped film to a lab specializing in developing it. I happen to love this one!

I love these images because they remind me of the day spent wandering with loved ones, the magic of the beach, and the serendipity of film soup.
