The California poppy is our state flower and one of my favorites. In the Springtime, they are blooming all over the hillside, coming out of cracks in the street, in my garden and sprinkled all over the state. Their soft orange leaves melt me. Spanish explorers looked out to the carpets of orange and yellow lighting up the coastal hills and called California “the land of fire.” They are our natural fields of gold.
