Through Her Lens

Last September, I wrote about taking my oldest daughter to college. Last night, she returned home from completing her first year. I look back at that post and I wish I could give myself a hug in that moment. We made it through a big transition year – for her and for our family.

All throughout the year, she sent me photos and stories. She knows the way to my heart! I saved each and every one of them. With her permission, I wanted to share her first year of college, through her lens.

Through her lens, I see her making friends. Taking risks, pushing her boundaries and being vulnerable.

Through her lens, I see her trying new foods, finding the beauty in the ordinary.

Through her lens, I see late night study sessions. Deep conversations that stretch her to think and form opinions about what she believes in.

Through her lens, I see her going to new places, listening to new music – building a community of people who have the same interests.

Through her lens, I see her experiencing snow for the first time. Going to art galleries and museums, and learning the stories of those who came before her.

Through her lens, I see her taking trips. Joining intramural sports and finding friendships with upperclassmen.

Through her lens, I see her making a new life. I see her maturing emotionally and academically. I am so proud she has spread her wings. And as her mother, it is an honor to watch her fly.
