when life gives you tulips, make double exposures

The weather has been strange lately in my part of the world. We’ve been slowly transitioning from Autumn to Winter, but some days it feels like we’re still clinging to the final days of Summer. As you can imagine, flowers in the garden are scarce and, after a while, one grows tired of using fallen leaves as the main source of inspiration.

That’s why I was delighted last month when my youngest daughter brought home a beautiful bunch of orange tulips for Mother’s Day. They were the perfect inspiration I needed to start shooting.

In double exposure photography, flowers are truly the gift that keeps on giving—especially when you shoot the second exposure weeks after the first and can’t remember the orientation of the original image. Was it landscape? Was it portrait? When the film eventually gets developed and scanned, each frame is a dreamy little surprise.

Until next month, enjoy the flowers, wherever you are, Jacqui x
