Since moving to our new home in Barking the coast between Leigh-on-Sea and Shoeburyness has become a firm favourite. I especially love walking towards the Crowstone at Chalkwell as the sun is setting. The reflections in the tidal pools are a visual gift.

When I returned to my family after my Dad’s cancer diagnosis we walked along the coast from Thorpe Bay while a glorious sunset played out around us. These pictures also turned out to be the last with the 35 mm 1.4 lens that had been my constant companion for a decade, as I dropped and shattered it before we got on the train.

Happily, after Christmas the whole family walked along this stretch together for the first time and I delighted in watching my eldest document the day.

I am looking forward to take many, many more pictures along this stretch. Happy New Year!

  1. There is something so bewitching about the British coast. And all the more so with all the light you find. Thank you. x
