Bees have always been the perfect analogy for social organization. I have always been fascinated with the benefits of the insect itself but, when I read more about their cooperative way of life, their communication with each other, and their resilience when adapting to change, I can feel the metaphor growing stronger in my head as I relate it to the world we are living in right now.
I feel that, like bees, the majority of the community around us has tried to live through this moment in history with a sense of cooperation, of support and contribution (more than ever, we have been checking in on each other constantly, making sure our circle or tribe is doing well). Moreover, surely our capacity to pull through and adapt to this new normal is admirable. And don’t get me started on the topic of swarm intelligence; progress depends on a collective decision, which is always better than individual decisions that only benefit one person.
Looking at our situation in bee terms, it kind of feels amazing to live in this human hive in this moment, despite the challenges to our emotional ecosystem, don’t you agree?

Hi Maite,
Those are awesome photos! It is very hard to get these little ones in focus. My favourite is the first one, with the gorgeous light on the petals.
As a beekeeper I know how beautiful a beehive works. How well they work together. All as one. And there is so much we still don’t know about life in a beehive. The people on earth can learn a lot from bees. A lot seems to lack in nowadays human life. (Abusing the earth for the good of a few of the richest people without eye for other living beings we share the planet with.). In the end we’re like a beehive and we won’t survive without honest cooperation.
Thanks Jolanda! Wow, I didn’t know you were a bee keeper!
These are so wonderful!!
Thanks Rachel!
Oh, Maite! Your photos lifted me today. xo
Hive never seen such bee-autiful pictures!
