Spring fling on film

Our long awaited spring has finally arrived. After weeks of longingly admiring the photos of blooming trees, bluebells, daisies and violets taken by my friends and family in Europe, while outside our windows I could see nothing but bare branches, it has arrived!

So I grabbed a couple of cameras and headed West for my rite of spring: a visit to the superb arboretum at the Royal Botanical Gardens. There are ancient flowering Japanese cherry trees there that I visit every year.

The blooms are only at their best for a few days and the weather isn’t always kind to them, but this year we picked the perfect day for a visit.

It was sunny and warm, not busy and the trees were at their best.

I dropped off a roll of Portra 160 that was already in my Canon AE1 at the lab a few days later and asked for scans to be sent to me that same day.

Here they are, including a couple of photos that were taken last fall and winter and that I had forgotten about, that were part of the roll. All part of the beauty of film and a reminder that after winter comes spring, always.
