Rain in the Bay Area always feels like a mini holiday. After weeks of sun and dry air, those first raindrops feel different, like the whole sky gifts us a break from the sun. The streets get darker, the fog rolls in low, and that wet leaf smell pops out of nowhere. Even a light sprinkle makes everything feel softer and cozier; it’s always such a treat for us!

Of course, Bay Area rain also means total chaos. Traffic slows down and people suddenly forget how to drive! Puddles get really big, potholes multiply, and umbrellas are usually destroyed by the strong, stormy wind. Still, there’s always something kind of nice about the rain here, like watching the traffic lights reflect off wet pavement or imagining all the snow that’s falling in the north…
But, no matter how much or how little it rains in the Bay Area, we all still enjoy it every time, chaos and all.

Gah! The reflection of the car in the puddle! Classic Maite!
Love this post! And your reflection images are always amazing. Every time I see them, I think, I should do that in Winter. And then I forget. Maybe 2026 will be the year, ha!
Love this collection. I also noticed your reflections and pops of color! I seem to only often capture reflections of clouds in puddles and bodies of water. You are inspiring me! And I definitely know how that traffic gets in the Bay Area when the rain comes…
