Honestly? Late winter and early spring is kind of ugly. Winter – proper winter – can be beautiful …

… but then we’re left with piles of melting snow and grey and dusty streets.

There is so much dust. A few days without rain – those are admittedly far and few between – and all the road dust from a winter of sanding icy roads takes to the air.

The city will sweep all the roads at some point before 17 May, Norway’s National Day, and that can’t come soon enough. And since I don’t have a car, I avoid the fuss of finding a different street to park in when the road sweepers come or risk getting towed.

And all the while I look for spots of beauty in the ugly and dream of green things.
