Like Deirdre, I’ve been collecting memories on Instax film this summer. It seemed like the time for a Sofort summer again, and I had forgotten how much I enjoy shooting with the Leica Sofort, and how lovely it is to touch the photos rather than viewing them on a screen.

The Sofort came with me to the beach in North-Germany, where we escaped the start of the heatwave in Norway and had a balmy 20-25 C.

After visiting the beach, we played a round of football golf in the flat, green landscape that reminded me of Denmark or the Netherlands (neither country being very far away from where we were).

The game was hosted by a Frenchman who was very into football. He lit up when he heard we were from Norway, mentioned Erling Braut Haaland, and told us his greatest wish was that France would meet Norway in the World Cup finals, with France to win, of course. We sympathised with that.

On the ferry home from Germany I put the camera through its paces inside. It struggled with the decorations in the indoor shopping street, but I did get a lovely shot of the window seat in the suite that we were upgraded to for free for some reason.

I mean, a window seat! I dream of having a window seat where I can relax and read a book wearing a big skirt, with a formal garden, or perhaps a windy moor, outside of the window.

We came home to Oslo and even more sun, and when we went to the farm we had a couple of days of almost record-breaking heat, which we spent inside in front of the fans, or in the river. Thankfully the heat passed, and now we are back to normal Norwegian summer weather – lovely and warm in daytime, a bit chilly in the evening and even some much-needed rain. These days seem to last forever, and they will – until it is time to go back to the city and work in a couple of weeks.
