Camino (still) on my mind

In my last post, I wrote some about my experience walking the camino, of the unique beauty during sunrise, where darkness and light meet. If you would indulge me for a while longer, I would like to share some more about the camino. It’s been almost two months since I ended my pilgrimage in Santiago de Compostela, yet not a day goes by that I don’t think about that epic journey. I suspect I will be reflecting on it for many years to come.

I am still discovering and uncovering gems and gifts from my experience. Every time I talk about it with someone new, I find myself making yet another discovery. “Oh, I didn’t realize that!” It’s been such a joy! The act of sending my thoughts out into the world, is itself a generative act; new thoughts form, new discoveries made, and as-of-yet undiscovered realizations come into focus, becoming part of my consciousness.

My previous reflection here has only deepened as I’ve made more associations with other parts of my experience. And so, my meditation about the beautifully slow and steady illumination of the sunrise is also about my experience of the enduring presence of God. Even now, as I write this, as I slow down to give my attention and thought to all this, new words and thoughts rise out of my depths to describe and redescribe my experience. Attention is wedded to discovery and meaning.

Recently, I’ve been going back over my photo archive and sharing more of my work. It has been such a delight to look again, with new eyes, at work I made, sometimes, years ago. The  act of looking again reveals new dimensions to the images.

Back to the camino: in addition to writing in my journal on most days, I also made many video journals. Most are of me saying some version of “wow – this is amazing!” 😀 but many are of various scenes I found lovely.

Here’s to the slow work of meaning-making!

-Eyes wide open,

Chinwe
