At the start of a new year, I like to look back at the previous year’s photographs and find the themes that emerge. Photography to me is like collecting art or antiques or books or trinkets — when you find one treasured item, you start to find similar treasures everywhere. The same holds true for seeing scenes or items to photograph. If you photograph one leaf or window or mountain vista, you are drawn to leaves and windows and mountain vistas everywhere you turn.

We’ve explored our favorite themes on this blog over the years, and here are a few of the themes that emerged for me in 2023.

Still life scenes, windows from outside looking in, compost, garden goodness — these are a few of the treasures that I captured this year. I wonder what treasures 2024 will bring?
