Rain

Woke up this morning with
a terrific urge to lie in bed all day
and read. Fought against it for a minute.

Then looked out the window at the rain.
And gave over. Put myself entirely
in the keep of this rainy morning.

Would I live my life over again?
Make the same unforgiveable mistakes?
Yes, given half a chance. Yes.

~ Raymond Carver

I have an obsession with rain through my windshield. While I am sitting at a traffic light, I am always mesmerized by the view of a rainy day in front of me. The textures the raindrops make on the glass and the effect the waterdrops have on the image I am seeing is just so beautiful.

I mainly use my iPhone to photograph that view, mostly because I am in the car going somewhere and I don’t usually have my DSLR with me. Most times it is an abstract image, when it is pouring and there is too much water on my window. Sometimes, however, I can focus the phone camera on the water drops or on a specific object on the windshield or outside and then the camera creates a small rain bokeh in the foreground that is perfect. What I love the most, though, is taking a rain photo at night, when the colors of the traffic lights and the wet pavement just make the image pop.

Have you tried taking photos of the rain through your car window? Do you love it as much as I do…?

  1. Such brilliant photos! I’m going to have to start paying attention to this view from our car too! It’s not as if we don’t have enough rain in these parts.

  2. Beautiful! I am with you! I love the world through a rainy windshield
