Scanography

A few years ago I was given a present of a flatbed scanner. I had wanted one so I could scan and digitise my illustrations and also keep a record of the odd important document.

It didn’t take long till myself and my family started scanning things like hands, faces and glitching art, all in the name of fun. When I tried scanning organic and botanical items such as flowers, grasses and driftwood, the scanner really came into its own.

I loved the shallow depth of field and dreamlike quality the images had. They reminded of an old Dutch master – a still life from Rachel Ruysch – with their rich dark background and fine detail, so completely different from the everyday, mundane object that captured them.

  1. Love these so much. I’ve done some hands and self portraits but I love the natural objects you’ve used here.
