I had completely forgotten the pure joy of disposable film cameras until my nephew recently opened his local film processing lab. It’s not often that I pick up a disposable film camera because I have a number of actual 35mm cameras that I love. But having this little guy was so fun!

There’s something liberating about the complete unpredictability. You’re working with the most basic of tools – a tiny plastic viewfinder and no focus control or exposure settings. You point, you press the shutter, and you hope. Sometimes, I genuinely wondered if I was just capturing anything, it felt so much like a toy.

These are captures from our anniversary weekend at a charming local bed and breakfast. Each frame was a small act of faith, and each photo is a delightful surprise of not knowing, but trusting the process.

I bought a few more disposable cameras to give to my girls. I can’t wait to see what they capture.
Such fun! I haven’t shot a disposable camera for years. You have inspired me to do it again.
Congrats to your son on the new fillm lab!
Oh yes! You have created such magical memories!
