Color and Joy

Over the summer, my friend and fellow Viewfinder Deirdre introduced our little group to the Slow Shutter Cam in this post. Around the same time, she shared the Harris Cam App (iphone & android) and I was totally smitten! The Harris Shutter Effect is a photography post processing technique that creates a rainbow effect around moving objects by isolating green, red, and blue color channels in the image. While this technique was originally used with film and color filters, I’ve been playing for months with the app on my iPhone. It’s been a quick and easy way to play on the go. It’s brought me so much joy these last few months! I began with my ukulele on the shelf:

I tried and failed a few times before landing on an image that felt right. After this image, I began seeking opportunities while I was out & about; a summer adventure unfolding. I made the image below in my backyard looking up through our pergola.

In the hotel over our summer vacation, I studied the stairwells and light fixtures.

In London, I wandered with Kirstin, another friend and Viewfinder, as we played with slow shutter, color, and evening light.

While in Paris, I mostly shot with my Pentax and 35mm film, but managed to have some fun with my iPhone as well!

From summer concerts…

To the airport lounge…

And beyond…

I’ve absolutely loved this little app! Tiny moments of joy found everywhere.

I’m forever grateful for my fellow Viewfinders and how we inspire one another! It’s always more fun to play along with friends. Want to play along with us? Download the apps and tag us!
