And just like that, summer is over and fall is here. Every year I try to plan a camping trip before the park I love closes until next spring. Fall is my favourite time for camping. The days are warm and the lake is too cold for most, but I love to swim in cold water. The nights are cool, the sunrises beautiful and misty and the coffee tastes amazing around the campfire. We had a whole week of silence broken only by the cries of loons and geese, the calls of blue jays and the chirping of red squirrels, it was pure bliss.
I took a lot of photos, too many photos, the same photos I take every year. My cameras allow me to capture moments I don’t want to forget. I’ll look at these photos in the midst of winter and remember the feel of cold lake water on my skin first thing in the morning, the smell of warm, steaming coffee in the morning, the warmth of the fire, the smell of the pine trees… I’ll remember that last swim before heading home, just water, trees and rocks to which I always whisper See you next year, Thank you and I love you.
