Ignore the Mess Please

“Oh well,” I tell myself, “I’ll get to it. I always do.”

My house is a mess. I’d say I’m not sure how it happened, but the truth is this: I one hundred percent do know how it happened, because I created it, ignored it and am currently living with it while finishing up my taxes. (Insert face palm emoji here)

Usually I have one, maybe two, piles of controlled chaos–the kind where I know exactly what’s in them–except now my piles have piles, and I’m only marginally confident of their contents, a definite setback for my spreadsheets.

Then I thought to myself, “perhaps it’s not that bad, perhaps there’s some beauty to be found,” and embarked on a scavenger hunt amidst the clutter surrounding me instead.

This is what I found.

…what’s left of the cranberries from Christmas. I’d planned to make muffins, but there’s only a cup left. Perhaps I’ll make a compote instead.

…my hat and gloves from this morning; we got a foot of snow last night!

…dried flowers from this years CSA, which would fit perfectly on a Victorian mantle.

…houseplants, houseplants, houseplants.

…the remnants of this afternoon’s tea.

…Major’s last toy, a spectacular new journal I received as a gift, my makeup bag and a box of tissues.

…and finally, a photo of me and Graham, taken the night before our wedding, which I came across earlier this month and placed on my computer…

…which brings me full circle and back to my taxes (and ignoring the mess) leaving my many piles for yet another day.

Until next time,

    • Thank you so much dear friend. I admit I’ll slightly embarrassed but figure I might as well embrace the chaos if I’m ever going to get a handle on it.

  1. Oh my! Thank you for the delightful pictorial essay. As I look around here, I feel far less isolated knowing there is at least one kindred soul out there.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words Barbara! Somehow it just creeps up on you and the next thing you know you’re in the thick of it! Eventually I’ll tame this mess; I’m sure of it! Just not today, and not in one go 🙂
